Akari 灯 — Kuki Hojicha

Akari 灯, meaning “light” or “lantern,” is a gently roasted kuki hojicha made from the stems and stalks of summer-harvested tea grown in Sayama, Saitama.

Kuki (茎) means “stem,” referring to the part of the tea plant used to create this distinctive style of hojicha. Rather than using only tea leaves, kuki hojicha gives new character to the stems through roasting, resulting in a tea that is lightly smoky, earthy, and naturally sweet.

This tea has a gentle nuttiness and a soft roasted aroma, with naturally lower caffeine characteristics associated with stem tea and the roasting process. Akari is a quiet, comforting expression of Japanese tea: simple, warm, and made to be enjoyed slowly.
